Oversight Drives Improvement

Public education is one of the largest and most powerful arms of local government—commanding billions in taxpayer funding with remarkably little scrutiny. School districts often use taxpayer-funded communications departments to shape narratives, deflect criticism, and pacify public concern. We believe oversight is the only way to counter this imbalance.

When communities pay attention, demand transparency, and insist on accountability, schools become safer, more effective, and more responsive to the families they serve.

Americans for School Oversight exists to build a national network of independent, locally led citizen oversight groups that hold public schools accountable and drive meaningful, lasting change.

We help seed, train, and support these enduring civic organizations—each shaped by its own community—to ensure that schools are transparent, responsive, fiscally responsible, safe, and committed to high levels of student achievement.
